• Welcome to our Photography Adventure!

We are a couple who share a love of photography and a set of Nikon lenses but differ somewhat in our approaches and styles.  This site provides an opportunity to present our images, thoughts and techniques as well as learning what you think about them when you comment.  What better way is there to improve than for the photographic community to challenge and nuture it members.  The Internet creates that opportunity for us all so please join us as we pursue a Wild and Wonderful Photography adventure.

Colors of the Smoky Mountains

It is no wonder the Great Smoky Mountains National Park is the most visited park in the United States. In 2010 there were over 9 million visitors to the park, nearly doubling the number of visitors to the Grand Canyon National Park. There is a wonderful beauty to these old mountains!

Metts Wedding — Asheville NC

It was a beautiful afternoon in Asheville, NC, when Crystal and Zach said their “I Do’s”.  After many years of dating they decided to get married.  Friends and family were so happy for these two.

Crystal’s dress was stunning.

Bride

After the ceremony the couple made their way to Zach’s family home and land.  The view was beautiful as it looked out towards Cold Mountain.

You can see more of the wedding in this slideshow.

Thanks Crystal and Zach for letting us share your day and capture it for you in pictures!

Wood Turning

We met Joe Ruminski, owner of The Gift Turning Studio, at the NC State Fair in Asheville this past weekend. He was demonstrating his craft of wood turning. We found this fascinating since my husband and I had talked about trying it a few months back. Joe was making the task of turning a bowl look very easy, but I am sure much practice is needed to shave the bowl with such ease.

Joe offers classes as well as sells his finished work.  If you have a chance to met Joe, ask to see his tiny, tiny, tiny goblet! (about the size of a writing pen point)  Find out more at his website, The Gift Turning Studio.

Leaving the Nest

After nearly stepping on this baby bird, I quickly ran for my camera. I had no idea I’d see the little bird trying to learn to fly and the mother feeding it.

This little bird was no bigger than the palm of my hand, but it appears to be getting ready to fight with me.

Mom was nearby, but didnt seem to care that I was also.

This happened quickly and I was not ready. This is a little blurred but still captured the moment, which was gone in a flash!

The little one wanted more, so Mom flew away and returned several more times. I did not stay long enough to watch it fly away.

Michael Adkins - Great wildlife shots. Just like humans. Mom still has to care for the children even if they leave the nest.

Kathy Smith - Thanks Mike! The baby was still out in the yard the next day. Sure hope it survived.
